Olga Raffault Les Picasses Chinon 2009
Olga Raffault Les Picasses Chinon 2009
We are unapologetic in our love of Raffault’s wines. Since Olga’s passing the estate is run by her granddaughter Sylvie and her husband Eric de la Vigerie. The “Les Picasses” vineyard is made up of 50+ year old vines on a steep slope from the Loire River. The soil is predominantly clay over chalk and limestone. This bottling of 100% Cabernet Franc is the most strcutured and age-worthy of the entire Raffault lineup and while it is drinking well now, patient cellaring will be greatly rewarded. The 2009 immediately impresses with great depth of fruit featuring notes of black cherry, wild mulberry, plum, and orange peel. Then the secondary characteristics take over with damp forest floor, sous bois, wet cedar, and bell pepper. THe palate is at once powerful, silky, fresh, and finely structured. Pair with roast duck anytime between now and 2030.
